Managing Director CosmicAI Center for Scientific Machine Learning
Dr. Pratik Mhatre is the Managing Director of the AI Institute for Cosmic Origins (CosmicAI), a multi-institutional, collaborative, research institute funded by the National Science Foundation and the Simons Foundation, housed within the Oden Institute's Center for Scientific Machine Learning at the University of Texas at Austin.
Mhatre received his Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Science from Texas A&M University and his Master's in Public Policy from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Mhatre is deeply interested in the relationship between public policy and the environment, especially the intersection of public education & health policies and their impact on the socioeconomic characteristics of the neighborhood/community.
Previously, Mhatre was the Director of Research Operations for Education Studies for Healthy Aging Research (EdSHARe). Mhatre also served as the Chief Operating Officer for the Texas Behavioral Science and Policy Institute and the Study Director for the National Study of Learning Mindsets. Mhatre was the Co-PI and Project Director for the To College and Beyond GEARUP Partnership Federal grant and served as the Data and Research Administrator for the Texas GEAR UP State Grant.
With over 15 years of experience leading multidisciplinary research initiatives and a strong background of leadership experience in research operations, faculty relations, and grants administration at The University of Texas at Austin, he brings his expertise in strategic planning, operational efficiency, and grant management to help launch and grow the new AI-focused initiative.
